Additional information

The Seiko Epson E2000 turntable, also known as the Σ 2000, is a high-precision, audiophile-grade record player developed jointly with Seiko Epson and Mr. Teragaki of the Teragaki Research Institute. It was produced in limited quantities in the early 1990s with a focus on achieving near-perfect mechanical and acoustic performance.

Technical Overview

  • Type: Power supply separate type turntable

  • Speeds: 33⅓ and 45 RPM with fine rotation adjustment of ±3%

  • Drive System: Uses a unique coreless brushless motor combined with a magnetic idler wheel that bites into the turntable, automatically rotating to the most stable position for efficient torque transmission

  • Platter and Bearing:
Main shaft inclined at 1.5°, supported by two disks to maintain zero clearance via an oil film
Main spindle made of SKS steel with hard chrome plating and high-precision polishing
Contact width of the disk less than 1 mm to minimize friction and improve signal-to-noise ratio
Turntable made from extruded brass, finished by high-precision lathe without plating or coating to preserve sound quality
    Turntable weight approximately 8 kg

  • Tonearm:
Static balance system with a head weight over 300 g, stabilized by a dual-lever mechanism that reduces horizontal inertia
Each arm support point applies contact pressure in one direction for smooth operation
Arm beam reinforced with a high-tensile steel rod under compressive stress for rigidity

  • Construction:
    External dimensions: 500 mm (W) x 240 mm (H) x 430 mm (D)
    Weight: 25 kg

  • Needle Pressure Adjustment Range: 1 g to 5 g

  • Power Supply: 100 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 25 W consumption
