Alphason Designs Origins

Alphason Specialist Audio’s origins date back to the late 1970s, when its founder, Mike, became the youngest Chartered Engineer in the UK in 1976. At that time, Mike undertook the ambitious task of mathematically modeling all the vibrational modes in a hi-fi tone arm and turntable, which led to the development of the HR-100S tonearm. This tonearm gained a reputation as the most tonally neutral tonearm in the industry and became a benchmark for audiophiles seeking the ultimate in hi-fidelity.

The company was formally founded by Mike Knowles in the early 1980s, and it has since been a family-owned business committed to producing technically advanced products, precision-engineered to provide exceptional performance without compromise. Alphason Specialist Audio’s rich heritage is marked by significant innovations, including the introduction of the Sonata, a sophisticated suspended turntable, in 1986.

Over the years, Alphason has continued to push the boundaries of sound innovation, introducing new products such as the HR-200S reference tonearm, and expanding its distribution network globally. Today, Alphason Specialist Audio is recognized as a pioneer in high-fidelity sound and a leading manufacturer of high-end Hi-Fi equipment.
