American Audio
American Audio is a brand that falls under the ADJ (American DJ) Companies umbrella, not to be confused with US based U-Turn Audio. American Audio did not start as a turntable manufacturer but rather evolved from supplying lighting and audio equipment to DJs.
American DJ (ADJ) Founding: In 1985, Chuck Davies, an electronics engineer, founded American DJ in East Los Angeles. Initially, Davies ran a Hi-Fi shop, but transitioned to supplying PAR cans, strobes and helicopter lights to the rising local DJ market because he was not happy with the quality of available products2.
Early Products and Innovation: American DJ began by importing products to his specifications. One of the first American DJ products included the Hyper Gem, and the Vertigo. In 1997, ADJ was the first company to use colour boxes for lights.
Expansion into Audio with American Audio: As ADJ grew to become the largest DJ products manufacturer in the world, they expanded to fill other niches, including a line of audio products under the name American Audio. It appears that American Audio became a brand under the ADJ company umbrella that included other brands such as Acclaim Lighting, Global Truss America/DuraTruss, and Elation Professional.
In summary, American Audio's origins are rooted in the broader history of American DJ, a company that started by providing lighting equipment to DJs and eventually expanded into audio equipment, including turntables, under the brand name American Audio
