Clearaudio

Clearaudio Origins

Clearaudio was founded in 1978 in Germany by Peter Suchy, a physicist and engineer with an unyielding love for vinyl. The company specializes in manufacturing high-end hi-fi components, with a primary focus on vinyl turntables and related products such as cartridges. Clearaudio became the first company in the world to use boron cantilevers for their phono cartridges, showcasing their commitment to innovation and quality.

Peter Suchy’s journey began long before the establishment of Clearaudio. Having faced challenges in his homeland, the former Czechoslovakia, he sought freedom and opportunity in Germany. In 1969, he left his past behind, driven by a desire to innovate in the world of sound. By 1978, he had founded Clearaudio, initially introducing loudspeakers like the Delta and Sigma that set the stage for what was to come. His relentless pursuit of excellence led to groundbreaking developments in analog sound reproduction, including the first fully symmetrical moving-coil system that offered unparalleled spatial three-dimensionality in stereo sound.

Clearaudio quickly became known for its commitment to quality and innovation. Within its first year, it pioneered the use of boron cantilevers in phono cartridges—an industry first that showcased Suchy’s inventive spirit. The company continued to push boundaries with patented technologies like tangential tonearms and ceramic magnetic bearings, which revolutionized turntable design and performance.

As Clearaudio grew, so did its reputation. The company’s products began to grace homes not just in Germany but across more than 80 countries worldwide. By focusing on meticulous craftsmanship and high-quality materials, Clearaudio established itself as a leader in high-end audio equipment. Its turntables are characterized by their elegant design and exceptional sound quality—a hallmark of Suchy’s vision.

What sets Clearaudio apart is not just its technological advancements but also its family-oriented ethos. The company remains a family business, with Peter's children actively involved in its operations. This familial bond fosters a unique atmosphere where creativity thrives and a shared love for music permeates every aspect of production. The Suchy family's dedication ensures that each product embodies their philosophy: "Take the best, make it better"—a mantra that reflects their commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Today, Clearaudio stands as a beacon of quality in the audio industry, offering a diverse range of products from entry-level turntables to high-end models priced at over $120,000. The company has not only survived but flourished amid the vinyl renaissance, appealing to both audiophiles and new generations discovering the joys of analog sound.

As Clearaudio continues to innovate and expand its offerings—now including amplifiers, cables, and even its own audiophile recordings—the legacy of Peter Suchy lives on through every turntable crafted in Erlangen. The company remains dedicated to enhancing the musical experience for listeners around the globe, proving that some stories—like great music—are timeless.
