The Akai X-500VT is a unique hybrid machine introduced in 1968 that combines a 4-track stereo autoreverse audio reel-to-reel recorder with a black and white video recorder using 1/4-inch tape. 

  • Tape System:
    Audio Recorder: 4-track stereo autoreverse with 3¾ and 7½ IPS tape speeds.
    Video Recorder: Black and white video recording with a tape speed of 11¼ IPS.

    Audio: Traditional 4-track stereo heads in autoreverse configuration.
    Video: Twin rotary video heads and linear audio head for video sound.

  • Tape Width: 1/4 inch (6.35 mm)
