Additional Information
The TEAC A-3300S is a 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced in Japan from around 1973 to 1976. It is designed for high-quality stereophonic recording and playback with robust construction and precise tape transport.
Track and Head System
4-track, 2-channel stereo/monaural quarter-track format.
Three heads: erase, record, and playback.
Heads use a hyperbolic design for improved tape contact, reduced contour effect, and enhanced frequency response.
Tape Transport and Motors
Three motors:
One 2-speed hysteresis synchronous capstan motor for precise tape speed control.
Two eddy current induction reel motors for stable tape tension and smooth winding.Tape speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s) with ±0.5% speed accuracy.
Supports reels up to 10.5 inches (No. 10 size).
Wow and flutter: approximately 0.06% at 7½ ips and 0.09% at 3¾ ips.
Rewind time: about 140 seconds for 550 meters (1800 feet) of tape.
Frequency Response and Sound Quality
Frequency response:
7½ ips: 25 Hz to 28 kHz (±3 dB)
3¾ ips: 25 Hz to 16 kHz (±3 dB)Signal-to-noise ratio: approximately 58 dB.
Total harmonic distortion: about 1% at reference level.
Crosstalk: 60 dB at 1 kHz.
Stereo separation: 50 dB at 1 kHz.
Inputs and Outputs
Microphone input: 0.25 mV, 600 Ω to 10 kΩ impedance.
Line input: 100 mV, 50 kΩ impedance.
Line output: 0.3 V, 10 kΩ or more.
Headphone output: 8 Ω.
Connectors include RCA and DIN types.
Additional Features
Expanded scale VU meters for accurate level monitoring.
Quick-lock reel clamper for secure and easy reel mounting.
Oil dump type tension arm for smooth tape handling.
4-digit index counter for tape position tracking.
Mechanism designed for both horizontal and vertical operation.
Microphone and line mixing recording capability.
Stabilized power supply circuit to reduce voltage fluctuation effects.
Automatic shut-off arm to stop tape transport at tape end.
Accessories typically include empty reel, reel adaptors, and connection cords.
Physical Specifications
