Additional information

  • Manufactured: Mid-1980s (1984–1986)

  • Drive System: Belt-driven with a servo-controlled DC motor for stable and precise speed control.

  • Speeds: 33⅓ and 45 rpm, automatically selected based on record size.

  • Operation: Fully automatic—record size detection, automatic pickup movement, and speed selection.

  • Tonearm: Radial, lightweight, with a low effective mass (about 8g). The arm pivots on three small steel ball-bearings for smooth movement. Stylus pressure is adjustable via a threaded, cylindrical counterweight at the rear (range: 0–3.5g).

  • Cartridge: SP10 (or similar Bang & Olufsen moving magnet cartridge), designed for secure tracking at just 1g.

  • Speed Control: Manual fine-tuning via strobe pattern on the platter. With adjustment, speed accuracy can be made spot-on.

  • Speed Accuracy: Default strobe setting may be +0.3% adrift; fine-tuning brings it to exact 33.33 rpm.

  • Wow and Flutter: Exceptionally low—peak wow: 0.05%, peak flutter: 0.03%.

  • Rumble: –67.3 dB (DIN-B weighted, through bearing); improves to –68.2 dB (through groove), thanks to the rubber mat.

  • Hum & Noise: –55.0 dB (unweighted, relative to 5cm/sec).

  • Power Consumption: 12W.

  • Dimensions: 438 × 160 × 324 mm (W × H × D).

  • Weight: 7.8 kg.

  • Output: DIN connector, stereo.

  • Accessories: Removable dust cover, rubber mat.

  • Finishes: Rosewood, teak, or white.

Additional Features

  • Suspension: Advanced suspension for excellent isolation from external vibrations.

  • Arm Damping: Internal damping in the tonearm tube, with a primary low-Q bending mode at 130Hz and other minor resonances at higher frequencies.

  • Design: Elegant, minimalist Scandinavian design typical of Bang & Olufsen.

  • Compatibility: Designed for use with Bang & Olufsen’s Beomaster 1900 and other systems of the era.
