Additional information

The Basis Audio 2000 Turntable is a premium vinyl playback system known for its exceptional engineering and sound quality. It is designed to meet the demands of audiophiles seeking precise and dynamic audio reproduction.

Design and Construction

  • Platter and Bearing: The turntable features a 2-inch thick acrylic platter that rests on an advanced oil-well bearing. This bearing design minimizes lateral forces by placing the platter's center of gravity between the top and bottom bushings, resulting in lower friction and noise. This configuration contributes to the turntable's ability to deliver a silent background and transparent sound.

  • Plinth: The Basis 2000 is built upon a massive stress-relieved acrylic plinth, which provides excellent isolation from external vibrations. This robust construction enhances the overall stability and performance of the turntable.

Suspension System

The turntable employs a sophisticated fluid-damped suspension system, incorporating what Basis refers to as Resonance Annihilators. This system effectively isolates the turntable from environmental vibrations and converts vibrational energy into heat, ensuring that any energy transmitted from the tonearm is immediately damped. This design leads to a direct and immediate sound, characteristic of the Basis 2000 series.

Motor and Drive System

  • Motor: The Basis 2000 utilizes an AC synchronous instrument motor, modified with a custom magnet assembly for smoother power delivery. The motor is isolated from the turntable by elastomer isolators, reducing noise transfer to the audio signal.

  • Drive Mechanism: The turntable features a high-quality belt drive system, which ensures exceptional speed stability and eliminates cogging. This results in musical notes that are solid and unwavering, enhancing coherence in the music playback.

Performance Features

  • Vacuum Record Hold-Down System: An optional vacuum system can be integrated, which applies negative pressure to keep records flat against the platter. This feature significantly reduces resonance and improves sound fidelity, especially for warped records.

  • Tonearm Compatibility: The Basis 2000 is compatible with various high-quality tonearms, including options like the Vector 4 Tonearm, allowing users to customize their setup for optimal performance.

Technical Specifications

  • Speed Stability: Achieves industry-leading specifications with less than 0.01% wow and flutter and 0.012% speed drift, ensuring accurate playback.

  • Isolation Performance: Provides 48 dB greater isolation between the motor and record-stylus system compared to non-suspended designs, enhancing detail retrieval in music playback.
