Additional information

The Basis Audio 2500 Signature Turntable is a high-end analog playback system, renowned for its exceptional engineering and sound quality. It is a part of the Basis 2000 Series and features advanced design elements that enhance audio fidelity and performance.

Design and Construction

  • Platter and Bearing: The 2500 Signature is equipped with a 2-inch thick acrylic platter that rests on an ultra-close tolerance oil-well bearing. This unique bearing design minimizes lateral forces by placing the platter's center of gravity between the top and bottom bushings, resulting in reduced friction and noise. This configuration allows for silent backgrounds and transparent sound reproduction, which are hallmarks of the 2500's performance.

  • Plinth: The turntable features a massive 2-inch stress-relieved acrylic plinth that provides excellent isolation from external vibrations. This robust construction contributes to the overall stability and sonic integrity of the turntable, ensuring accurate sound reproduction without interference from environmental factors.

Suspension System

The Basis 2500 incorporates a sophisticated fluid-damped suspension system, which includes components known as Resonance Annihilators. These isolators convert vibrational energy into heat, effectively isolating the turntable from external vibrations and damping any energy transmitted from the tonearm. This design results in immediate sound clarity and detail retrieval, characteristic of high-end turntables.

Motor and Drive System

  • Motor: The turntable utilizes an AC synchronous instrument motor, modified with a custom magnet assembly to enhance power delivery and reduce noise. The motor is isolated from the turntable chassis using elastomer isolators, further minimizing vibration transfer.

  • Drive Mechanism: A high-quality belt drive system ensures exceptional speed stability, achieving less than 0.01% wow and flutter. This results in unwavering musical notes and coherent sound reproduction across various frequencies.

Performance Features

  • Vacuum Record Hold-Down System: An optional vacuum system applies controlled negative pressure to keep records flat against the platter. This feature eliminates resonance and enhances sound fidelity, particularly for warped records. The vacuum system significantly improves dynamics, imaging, musicality, and tracking ability.

  • Tonearm Compatibility: The Basis 2500 is compatible with various high-end tonearms, including the optional Vector 4 Tonearm, which is designed to extract fine details from vinyl records.
