Additional information

The Continuum Audio Labs Obsidian turntable is a high-end, belt-driven turntable designed for audiophiles. It features:

  1. A belt-drive system with a 60V DC motor, controlled by an external power supply unit (PSU).

  2. Two rotational speeds: 33 1/3 RPM and 45 RPM.

  3. Support for up to two 9-inch tonearms as standard.

  4. A nested platter design, which has been refined from previous models and optimized using finite-element analysis (FEA) modeling to dampen vibrations.

  5. An oversized, magnetically opposed bearing with a tungsten ball and shaft, designed to keep resonance below 10Hz.

  6. A high-mass platter weighing approximately 10kg, contributing to a total turntable weight of about 30kg without the tonearm.

  7. A servo-controlled DC motor running at 53.6kHz, featuring graphite brushes and ball bearings to minimize vibrations.

  8. Magnetic arm base support with tungsten rods as outriggers.

  9. Extensive use of tungsten throughout the design, including the main bearing shaft, arm post, and arm suspension contact points.

  10. A plinth-less design, with the tonearm and motor mounted on separate, mechanically isolated structures.

The Obsidian turntable represents Continuum's vision of the best turntable possible, focusing on minimizing resonances and vibrations to provide a neutral, high-fidelity playback experience
