The DP-790 uses a direct drive system with a highly accurate magnetic recording and playback system to control the rotation speed, ensuring low wow and flutter. The drive motor is an AC torque motor, which provides smoother rotation compared to DC motors. It supports 33 1/3 rpm and 45 rpm speeds, with a speed adjustment range of ±3% or more.
The turntable has a 11.8 inches (30 cm) aluminum die-cast platter with an inertia amount of 360 kg/cm². It features a static balancing type tonearm with an effective length of 9.6 inches (244 mm) and an overhang within 2.5°. The tonearm can adjust the stylus pressure within a range of 0-2.5 g/1 rotation, with a direct reading method.
