Overview
The Wilson Benesch Greenwich is the foundation model of the company’s GMT® Collection of analogue products. It was publicly previewed in March 2026 and is built around Wilson Benesch’s ALPHA–OMEGA direct-drive architecture. The turntable is available to order at a stated MSRP of £82,000 / €98,000 / US$130,000, excluding optional system components such as the tonearm, cartridge, rack, and VTA-control system.
The Greenwich is not supplied as a complete tonearm-and-cartridge package. Its configuration is modular, and the turntable can be specified with a Wilson Benesch armwand and associated accessories.
OMEGA direct drive
The OMEGA motor is a 15-inch, slotless synchronous direct-drive motor developed by Wilson Benesch with academic engineering partners, including Sheffield Hallam University. It uses a circumjacent radial-force architecture.
The manufacturer specifies:
21 coreless, slotless coils.
14 NdFeB magnets.
Three-phase operation.
A patent-applied-for direct-drive design.
A time-average torque of 0.718 N·m at 1.2 A RMS and 33.3 rpm.
RMS torque ripple of 0.001342 N·m.
Wilson Benesch states that the motor topology is intended to eliminate cogging and reduce torque ripple. The published torque-ripple figure includes cogging torque, current-commutation effects, and air-gap flux harmonics.
The motor is integrated into the platter-drive architecture rather than being connected through a conventional belt. This removes belt compliance and belt replacement from the drive system, but Wilson Benesch does not describe the Greenwich as a conventional low-torque motor with an external belt transmission.
ALPHA control electronics
The ALPHA Drive is the separate electronic control unit for the OMEGA motor. It uses:
Computer-controlled, quartz-referenced sine waves.
Three super-linear Class A amplifiers.
Computer-controlled remote functions.
The ALPHA Drive governs the multi-phase electromagnetic field used by the synchronous motor. Wilson Benesch states that the system is designed to achieve stable rotation without complex feedback correction.
The GMT Control App is supplied with the Greenwich and runs through a dedicated smart-device/control arrangement. The app provides:
Playback-speed selection.
Start and stop.
Fine speed adjustment.
Control of the tonearm lift/lower function when the optional VTA Control System is installed.
The official Greenwich page states that speed trim is adjustable in 0.01 increments, while the company’s launch coverage and independent reporting have described the adjustment as 0.1 rpm increments. Because the official page is internally inconsistent about this point, the exact user-adjustment resolution should be confirmed with Wilson Benesch or the dealer before purchase.

Wilson Benesch’s specification page lists wow and flutter as “not measurable.” This is the manufacturer’s published description, not a numeric result from an identified external test standard. The page does not provide a conventional rumble figure, speed-error figure, or measurement bandwidth.
The official specification page also contains a typographical error in the speed line, displaying “78pm”; in context, the product’s stated speed options and the independent launch coverage identify the third speed as 78 rpm.
Platter, bearing, and isolation
The Greenwich uses a proprietary magnetic counterforce system. Wilson Benesch says this reduces the effective dynamic mass acting on the Angstrom bearing and keeps Hertzian contact forces within safe limits.
The Greenwich’s isolation architecture is a tuned spring-damping system. It is distinct from the more elaborate isolation systems used in higher GMT models.
The Greenwich can be upgraded to a Prime Meridian chassis, adding the FrACTaL damping system. The pneumatic LeVeL isolation system is not listed as part of the Greenwich’s standard architecture.
The Greenwich turntable assembly, specified as including the OMEGA Drive, arm hub, STAGE One, arm park, and glass top, weighs 64 kg. The separate ALPHA Drive weighs 30 kg.
Tonearm and signal path
The Greenwich is configured for one Wilson Benesch armwand. The company describes the STAGE One design as allowing rapid interchange of one or multiple Wilson Benesch armwands, although the Greenwich’s published platform table identifies the base configuration as one-arm wand.

The GRAVITON Ti uses a three-point kinematic bearing arrangement. Wilson Benesch states that the bearing is designed to avoid Brinelling and to permit rapid armwand replacement. The shortest possible lead-out wire is also used as part of the company’s signal-path design.
The STAGE One connection is located close to the arm wiring and uses a Binder connector. Its exact connection-board configuration is fixed at the time of order on the Greenwich, unlike the higher GMT models, whose connection boards can be changed.
VTA Control System
The Piezo VTA Control System is an optional Greenwich upgrade. It provides:
Remote vertical tracking-angle adjustment.
Nanometre-scale positioning.
Stored and recalled VTA positions.
Automatic tonearm lift when the platter is stopped.
Wilson Benesch specifies 1 nm resolution for the VTA positioning system. It is important to distinguish resolution from absolute VTA accuracy: the published information specifies the former but does not provide an independent accuracy or repeatability measurement.
Upgrade path and options
The Greenwich is intended to form the entry point to a progressive GMT platform. The listed options and upgrades include:
