Additional information

The McIntosh MT10 is a high-performance precision turntable designed for discerning audiophiles.

Design and Build

  • Base: The turntable features a damped sandwich base made from polished stainless steel and acrylic, providing a resonance-free foundation for the tonearm.

  • Platter: The massive platter is made from a special silicone-acrylic material, weighing approximately 12 pounds (5.4 kg) and measuring 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) thick. It spins on a custom magnetic bearing with air suspension, ensuring smooth and vibration-free rotation.

  • Dimensions: The MT10 measures 17.5 inches (44.45 cm) in width, 8.8 inches (22.38 cm) in height, and 21 inches (53.34 cm) in depth.

Motor and Drive System

  • Motor Type: The MT10 uses a high-precision, brushless DC motor made in Switzerland, known for its quiet operation and stability.

  • Drive Type: Belt drive system with manual speed adjustments for 33 1/3 RPM, 45 RPM, and 78 RPM playback.

  • Speed Control: Electronic speed control system referencing 1,595 strobe markings per revolution for precise speed accuracy.

Tonearm and Cartridge

  • Tonearm: Custom-made with a rigid dural-aluminum arm tube, gimbaled in two sapphire (horizontal) and two ceramic (vertical) bearings for minimal friction.

  • Cartridge: The included cartridge is typically a moving coil type, such as the McIntosh MCC10, with an ebony body and an elliptical stylus. It has an output level of 0.5 mV at 5 cm/s and a recommended load impedance of 400 to 500 Ohms.

Connectivity and Features

  • Outputs: Unbalanced RCA output for connection to a phono preamplifier and a ground terminal3.

  • Power Supply: External regulated power supply providing 24V, 625 mA.

  • Illumination: The turntable features a fiber-optic illuminated glass front panel with a blue backlit speed meter.

Additional Features

  • Setup: Tracking force, anti-skate, and cartridge position are preset at the factory for minimal setup requirements.

  • Sound Quality: Known for delivering natural, energetic sound with clear bass and minimal noise
