Additional information

The Michell TecnoDec turntable is an entry-level reference turntable that incorporates several advanced features typically found in higher-end models.

Design and Build

  • Base and Plinth: The TecnoDec features a solid plinth with a robust design, utilizing materials and technologies not commonly found in entry-level turntables. It includes three pod-like aluminum footers with Pure Sorbothane feet inserts to isolate the turntable from structural vibrations.

  • Dimensions: Measures 49 cm in width, 31 cm in depth, and 8.5 cm in height. It weighs approximately 4.6 kg.

  • Plinth Material: The plinth is designed to provide a stable foundation for the turntable's components.

Motor and Drive System

  • Motor Type: The TecnoDec uses a low-noise DC motor housed in a separate unit made from aircraft-grade aluminum. This design minimizes the transfer of vibrations to the sensitive parts of the turntable.

  • Drive Type: Belt-driven system for smooth operation and reduced motor vibrations. Speeds of 33 1/3 RPM and 45 RPM are supported, with speed adjustments made by changing the belt position on the drive pulley.

Platter and Bearing

  • Platter Material: The platter is impedance-matched to vinyl, providing a neutral sound characteristic. It is designed to dampen vibrations, ensuring a stable playback environment.

  • Bearing System: Features an inverted oil circulating main bearing, which fully lubricates the bearing while the platter is turning. This design reduces noise and vibration by using a modified Archimedean screw to circulate oil from a reservoir to the thrust ball and back.

Tonearm and Cartridge

  • Tonearm: The TecnoDec is typically supplied with the Michell T2 tonearm, which is designed for precise tracking and minimal resonance.

  • Cartridge: The turntable is often bundled with a Goldring E3 cartridge, though other cartridges can be used depending on user preference.

Connectivity and Features

  • Outputs: Unbalanced RCA output for connection to a phono preamplifier.

  • Dust Cover: Includes a UniCover for dust protection, which is designed to keep essential parts of the turntable clean without obstructing access.

  • Power Supply: External power supply unit is standard, with an optional "Never Connected" (NC) power pack available for improved stability against voltage fluctuations.

Additional Features

  • Setup and Maintenance: The TecnoDec requires minimal setup and maintenance, making it user-friendly for those new to high-quality turntables.

  • Sound Quality: Known for delivering a high level of sound fidelity with clear and detailed audio reproduction, thanks to its advanced vibration control and bearing design
