Additional information
The Sherwood ST-890 is a direct-drive turntable produced during Sherwood’s Inkel days, made in Japan by Fujiya Audio. It features a robust motor with high torque, which maintains excellent speed stability, and uses hall effect sensors in the motor to monitor and control platter speed via a control chip. Unlike quartz-lock models, the ST-890 relies on a frequency generator and hall sensors for stability, rather than a crystal oscillator, making it a non-quartz lock design.
Type: Direct drive
Manufactured by: Fujiya Audio (Japan)
Drive: Hall effect sensors + control chip with frequency generator
Speed stability: Good, but not quartz-locked
Features: Fully automatic operation, pitch control
Build: Known for high torque motor and solid construction
User notes: Holds speed well, slight drift possible, reliable and durable
